All of us at Haslams cannot wait for the Christmas period to begin. We kicked off the festivities this weekend with the installation of our much-loved snow windows.
For this year’s theme we partnered with Reading Foundation for Art and Reading Museum for their Oh Beautiful World! exhibition, which commemorates the legacy of Oscar Wilde in Reading.
The snow windows follow the story of Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince, originally published in 1888. An enchanting tale about doing selfless deeds to help others. More recently, Sally Castle (a local artist) illustrated the newest edition of the book. Reimagining the story set in Reading amongst the parks, squares, rooflines and churches. The town holds a special connection to Oscar Wilde following his imprisonment at Reading Gaol.
Additional features of our snow windows this year include a nod to Banksy’s Reading Gaol mural.
If you’re in town doing your Christmas shopping, be sure to pop by and take a look!
