New developments offering perfect family homes around Reading

Current new developments in and around Reading offer tranquil, country living just 40 miles west of London, with the added attraction of the beautiful River Thames on their doorstep.

Reading and its surroundings have a thriving economy and plenty to offer young families of all sizes. There’s a broad range of primary schools in Reading, the majority run by the local authorities with some academy schools and chains.

As for secondary schools, parents can choose from selective single-sex grammar schools, academies, local authority secondary and a University Technical College. Two grammar schools in the heart of Reading have a catchment that stretches across much of Berkshire.

Let’s take a look at a few of the stunning, contemporary developments that are new to the market.

Barkham Place, Arborfield Green

Barkham Place is perfect for families looking for a vibrant, social community. Arborfield Green Community Centre provides a venue for people to come together – whether it’s for yoga and Pilates classes or to join one of the local youth clubs.

The community centre welcomes pop-up cafes, and it can be hired as a party venue. The centre becomes the focus of the community during the Spring Fair, Summer Fete and Christmas lights switch-on celebrations. Residents enjoy picnicking there in the summer and celebrating with Santa in the winter.

Arborfield Green even has its own leisure centre with a variety of classes and activities – and for footie enthusiasts, there’s Arborfield Aces youth football club.

Bohunt Wokingham is Arborfield Green’s new secondary school. It opened in 2017 and offers fantastic modern facilities for local children. Work on a new primary school is underway with new classrooms for younger children from 2020.

Residents of Barkham Place can enjoy the countryside on their doorstep. Hazebrouck Meadows is in easy reach with links through to California Country Park for longer walks. The village is in easy reach of both Wokingham and Reading’s fast train links, shopping and leisure facilities.

Lea Meadow, Sonning Common

Sonning Common is a village set in a relatively flat part of the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Oxfordshire, 2.5 miles north of Reading.

The village has a health centre, village hall, shops, a small supermarket, restaurants, a  garden centre and three public houses. The Millennium Green is public land for residents to enjoy.

It’s an ideal location for a family home with three children’s playgrounds and a gymnastics club. There are plenty of other amenities within short driving distance with easy access to the M4 and A34 for journeys around the local area and beyond.

Sonning Common has a primary school, and a secondary school called Chiltern Edge. There is also a special needs school, Bishopswood, which serves the wider area.

This idyllic location currently has a collection of 2, 3- and 4-bedroom properties for sale.

Loddon Oak, Spencers Wood

The parish of Shinfield includes the hamlets of Ryeish Green, Spencers Wood, Three Mile Cross, Shinfield Village and Grazeley and the southern suburb of Reading called Shinfield Rise.

It’s surrounded on its eastern and southern boundary by the River Loddon, and the M4 motorway runs west-east through the northern portion of the parish.

Loddon Oak offers a peaceful village location for families in Spencers Wood.
